First of all, I’m going to start off by saying most likely all of you don’t know about our blogs because us gappers were too lazy to think of how to tell you about them in Spanish, or we didn’t know how to at all. That brings me to my next point, which is, even if you knew about our blogs, you wouldn’t be able to understand them because we primarily speak, and therefore write, in English. BUT I am determined to write this letter to you all despite the negative chance of you seeing/understanding it.
First and foremost, thank you. Thank you thank you thank you thank you. You’ve graciously welcomed us into your homes and taken us in as if we were your own children. You give us our basic needs, but more than that, you make us feel at home in a foreign country on a completely different continent than where we come from.
Thank you for feeding us plenty, making sure we like the meals you’re cooking us, doing our laundry, giving us hugs, and doing anything and everything to fill the role of our parents back in the States (maybe even more so…)
Thank you for playing charades throughout the day to communicate and being extremely patient when we have no idea what you’re trying to say to us.
Thank you for everything. We are extremely grateful for all that you do for us.
On another note, we’re sorry for not knowing where anything is, some of us for being picky eaters, and most of all not talking to you much. We would all love to sit down and have a conversation with you, but with most of us knowing very little Spanish, it’s difficult. Know that when we come sit and read a book, work on homework, or watch T.V. in the same room as you, we’re trying to connect in the only way we can since in-depth conversation isn’t much of an option.
Also know that if we talk about wanting to go home or missing our friends and family, it’s absolutely nothing against you. We love living here and being with you! The culture is different, but we all enjoy and appreciate it. Despite how much we love it in Spain, we miss everything about back home in the U.S. But when we go back home in December, it will be switched around and YOU guys and Spain will be the things we’ll be missing!
*Random but important note: When we say we’re full, we’re not saying we don’t like your food – we’re ACTUALLY full. I promise!! Your food tastes amazing!!!
And lastly, we want you to know that we love you! You have become our family in such a short amount of time and we appreciate your love and kindness. Thank you again for everything.
